Applications

The Advanced Lecture Course is aimed primarily at senior PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, and early career academics (<5 years of obtaining a PhD) from all nationalities. Appropriate background knowledge is expected, and you must be fluent in English. Applications from colleagues in industry are welcome; special rates apply please contact us directly for details.  

The registration fee is inclusive of access to the scientific programme, accommodation in a twin-room, breakfast and lunch each day, and where stated in the programme, evening meals over tutorial sessions. Please note travel costs are not included in the registration fee. There is a very small number of single rooms available on a first-come, first-served basis costing 1060,00 €.

The deadline for applications is 23:59 GMT on 15th June 2019.

Travel Grants

A restricted number of travel grants will be available to applicants who cannot obtain funding from other routes. Participants wishing to apply for a travel grant must complete the course registration form, specifying which grant they wish to apply for and in their cover letter, include justification for financial support. More details are giveb below in 'How to Apply'.

If your laboratory is able to fund your participation in this course, please do use this funding. By doing so, you will allow us to help those who have no financial support available to them. 

How to Apply

1. Complete a registration order through the registration/abstract submission portal on this event website. When you complete an order you will receive an 'order received e-mail' with full instructions on how to proceed with your application and a copy of the order in PDF.

2. During this process, upload a single file (accepted formats are pdf, zip and rar) containing all supporting documents for your application as follows: 

       For a regular applicant: 
(A) The name, address and email of your supervisor or the head of your laboratory/research group. We may contact them for a reference. 
(B) An up to date CV consisting of no more than 2 pages. 
(C) A summary of your reasons for applying to the event and your research interests (max. 300 words) 
(D) A documeny clearly stating if you do or do not have any dietary requirements, and if you have a preferred roommate. 

For a Youth Travel Fund (YTF) Award Applicant 
The items listed above, plus: 
(E) Proof of status (PhD student or post-doctoral scientst within 5 years of receiving PhD).  
(F) Scanned copy of current membership certificate/letter for your FEBS Constituent Society.
(G) Proof of age ID. 

Please combine all documents into a single file.  Supported formats: .pdf, .zip and .rar 

All elements requested above must be included in your supporting documents by the deadline of 23:59 GMT 15 June 2019. If there is something missing, please re-upload again to ensure you submit the complete set. Doing so will replace any previously uploaded files.

You will be notified of the outcome of your application by 31 May 2019. Accepted applicants must then pay the relevant registration fee by 14 June 2019 (720,00 € for twin room, 1060,00 € for single room). Details on how to pay the registration fee will be included in the outcome notification email. Please see below for the terms and conditions of the course.

Terms and Conditions

By registering for the event, participants (also referred to as 'you') are entering an agreement with the Course Organizers, and you are indicating acceptance to the terms and conditions set out below.

Registration Fee

The registration fee for participants covers:

  • Access to all scientific programme sessions
  • Meals and refreshments as set out above
  • Accommodation at Spetses Hotel
  • Name badge, printed materials and certificate of attendance
  • Invitation to the social events

Please note that all registration fees include VAT. Travel costs are not covered by the registration fee.

Methods of Payment

You will receive an outcome notificaton email before 31 May 2019. If you are selected to attend the course, must pay the registration fee before 14 June 2019. Full details of how to pay will be included in your outcome notification email. If you are unable to pay by this date, you must contact us as soon as possible by email on biosystemdesign@synmikro.uni-marburg.de

Bank charges are the responsibility of the participant and should be paid at source. Your Name, Surname and Order ID must be indicated on the transaction receipt of the bank transfer. Please use the following banc account:

Following the payment, proof of payment must be sent via email to biosystemdesign@synmikro.uni-marburg.de  

A confirmation notification will be sent to you when organizers receive the funds and confirm your registration in the system. If you do not receive confirmation before 1 July 2019 after sending your proof of payment, please contact biosystemdesign@synmikro.uni-marburg.de.  

Registration cancellation & refund policy

All registration cancellation requests should be sent to biosystemdesign@synmikro.uni-marburg.de in writing.

For cancellation requests received on or before 14 July 2019, the full payment, less bank charges, will be refunded; for cancellation requests received on and after 14 July 2019, the full amount will be charged and no refunds will be made. No cash refunds will be made for the credit card payments in the case of cancellation.

Travel insurance

You should seek and follow the advice of your government before registering and booking travel for the event and before travelling to the event. You are solely responsible for making your own appropriate travel and other insurance arrangements before booking travel for the Advanced Lecture Course.

Modification and cancellation of the event

The Course Organizers reserve the right to modify the event programme, which is published as an indication only.

In the event of the cancellation of the event, at any time, as a result of any event of 'force majeure' or for other reasons that are beyond the control of the Course Organizers, the registration fee shall be refunded by the Course Organizers but neither the Course Organizers nor FEBS shall be held liable for any other costs or losses incurred, such as transportation costs, financial losses, etc. 

Disclaimer and ‘force majeure’

Neither the Course Organizers nor FEBS shall be responsible for any bodily injury/death or property damages (including theft) sustained by participants during the event, unless such damages are a direct result of the negligent or unlawful act or omission thereof.

In any event, neither the Course Organizers nor FEBS accept liability for damages in the event of bodily injury/death, property damage, disruption to travel plans and costs incurred as a result of ‘force majeure’.  ‘Force majeure’ (or ‘Act of God’) reasons include but are not limited to: war or threat of war, riots, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial disputes, natural or nuclear disaster, adverse weather conditions, epidemics, health risks, fire and closure of airports or airspace. 

Governing law

Any legal dispute resulting from the accepted terms and conditions will be subject to the law of the United Kingdom.
